Mexican Independence Day Parade 2025 - NYC (Gallery)
Made the trip up to New York City for the 2025 Mexican Independence Day Parade! Did the normal park in Hoboken and take the Path train into the city. The parade was just two blocks from the 33rd street station, running down Madison Ave. from 39th to 27th.
I arrived less than a half hour into the parade and it was difficult to get a good view at that point with the huge crowd that had formed. So I found a spot and kind of stuck with it the whole time to ensure I could at least see the parade.
After my trip to Mexico last year I’ve been feeling a void. Everywhere I went in Mexico there seemed to be a mural of an indigenous person, a monument, cultural space or performance. It was this place full of people who loved their culture and history. And who took every opportunity to celebrate it.
Coming back to the United States I longed for that and knew this parade would be one of the only ways to ease the pain, short of returning to Mexico. It made me think how many of these people probably felt that on a much deeper level. To be celebrating their home and missing it at the same time.
I also couldn’t help but think of the current political climate and that many of these people were likely living in fear.
But here, for a day, they could forget about that and celebrate who they were.
It was a beautiful day full of culture, heritage, history and an overwhelming feeling of joy. I knew how fortunate I was to be there with all of those fine folks, enjoying one beautiful day together.
